People have been utilizing the power of the wind for centuries. Windmills have been used for centuries, but only recently have become more popular for generating electricity. A lot of people have romantic notions about having a windmill and generating their own power. (Myself included.)

A wind turbine requires several things in order to work. First, the tower should be at least 10 m taller than anything else within 100 m. Second is the balance of system components (batteries, regulator & inverter). Lastly, and most important, is WIND! Lots of it! An average wind speed of 20 kph is needed to generate a meaningful amount of power from a wind turbine. The best way to determine how much wind you have is to place a wind meter at the proposed site and monitor the wind for at least 3 months. This will give a good indication for a small turbine (3000 watts or less), larger turbines projects may require longer monitoring due to larger investment and payback concerns. We can supply wind monitoring equipment on a rental or purchase basis.

For more detailed information, call us or visit some of the related sites from our links page. Also, if you are interested in a larger wind turbine, (10 kw plus) contact us so we can discuss your ideas. We currently offer Winderra, Eco 1200, Bergey 1kw and 10wk and South West Wind Power products, from 400 to 3000 watts.
